How do I work?
I offer a fully bespoke re-upholstery service for mostly chairs and footstools. Other items can be considered on request.
Each commission involves a 1-2-1 discussion with the client. I like to learn about the background of the chair or stool, what the client plans to do with it in the future, what colours will resonate and what type of fabric will complement its surroundings.
I find that upholstery quality Wool and Linens offer the best and most durable finishes. They allow clean lines, excellent cornering and edges and, of course, a wide choice of colours, shades and patterns.
Velvet can look sumptuous but do remember where the finished item will be placed and if any small sticky fingers or hairy pets will come into contact. However, I do believe that a velvet covered occasional chair does add richness and softness to perhaps a bedroom.
I do work with leather if requested by a client. But do bear in mind that clean finished lines can be much harder to achieve with some leathers.
Trims including braids, piping and studs all add individual detail and I will help you choose the most appropriate finishes to give your project a truly unique finish.
I have an extensive range of fabric books and accounts with all the major suppliers so can offer the widest range of options to customers.
Each commission is individually costed dependant on the work involved. Sometimes it will involve stripping back the piece fully to the frame or it might just be a simple recover to refresh the look. Sometimes I will suggest retaining some of the age related scuffs and scratches. Often they are part of the story of the piece and can add character.
